Aperçu sur le contenu des textes de la grotte 4 de Qoumrân tenus pour sapientiaux, avec une traduction des principaux vestiges (en particulier des manuscrits 4Q 416-418 et 424). Caractérisés par un vocabulaire et une phraséologie particuliers, ce sont des homélies donnant dans un esprit de modération des conseils de bonne conduite pratique (concernant les rapports humains ou l'usage de l'argent) dans une perspective religieuse commandée par l'idée d'un jugement de Dieu dont le plan est, semble-t-il, accessible aux adeptes.

A review of the content of the Cave 4 texts which are held to be sapiential, with a translation of the principal fragments (in particular of manuscripts 4Q 416-418 and 424). These are homilies characterized by a particular vocabulary and phraseology. In a spirit of moderation, they give advice for good practical conduct (concerning human relationships or the use of money) in a religious perspective dominated by the idea of a judgment of God, whose plan appears to be accessible to the faithful.

En Str. IV 81,1-83,1 Clément d'Alexandrie cite trois fragments de Basilide sur le martyre ; il les réfute ensuite en 83,2-88,5, en les surinterprétant jusqu'à prêter à l'hérétique des idées qui lui sont étrangères : métensomatose, divinité du diable, peccabilité du Seigneur. Dans sa réfutation il fait en outre allusion à trois textes (86,1 ; 88,3.5) qu'on s'efforce ici d'interpréter en fonction du système et de l'éthique des basilidiens.

In Str. IV, 81,1-83,1, Clement of Alexandria quotes three fragments of Basilides on martyrdom ; in the course of his refutation, in 83,2-88,5, he over-interprets them to the point of ascribing to the heretic ideas that are foreign to him : metensomatosis, divine character of the devil, peccability of the Lord. In his refutation he also alludes to three other texts (86,1 ; 88,3,5) of which a tentative interpretation in function of the ethical system of the basilidians is offered herewith.

Existe-t-il aujourd'hui, a-t-il d'ailleurs jamais existé une pensée « satisfaisante » du phénomène religieux ? Cette question centrale est le fil conducteur d'un parcours qui, partant de problématiques contemporaines, remonte jusqu'aux positions de Marx, Hegel et Kant. Pour estimer finalement qu'une véritable compréhension philosophique (critico-pratique) de la religion en général, et du christianisme en particulier, reste encore à inventer.

Does a satisfying theory of the religious phenomenon exist, has one ever existed ? This central question is the thread which leads from contemporary problems unto the positions of Marx, Hegel and Kant. The final estimate is that a true philosophical (critico-practical) comprehension of religion in general, and of Christianity in particular, remains to be invented.
